Hello
I like to think that this profession chose me rather than the other way around. My journey into the mental health field began unexpectedly during the 2007-2009 recession when I lost my job as a director for an NBC news station in Flagstaff, Arizona—my hometown. Thanks to some well-placed connections my wife had as a nurse at Flagstaff Medical Center, I found myself working as a Patient Safety Attendant, bouncing around different units in the hospital. During those four years, I landed in the mental health unit, where I got to work with teens, teaching them video editing skills I picked up during my time at Northern Arizona University. My enthusiasm didn't go unnoticed—a social worker saw the spark and encouraged me to go back to school for my master’s in social work. That’s what brought me to Colorado, and I’ve been on this incredible journey ever since.
With a background that spans residential treatment centers, mental health facilities, alternative school settings, and foster care and adoption, I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life. These experiences have allowed me to cultivate and refine my interpersonal skills, particularly in connecting with people on a deep and meaningful level. Each environment brought unique stories and perspectives, teaching me the importance of empathy, patience, and active listening. These skills have become the foundation of my approach in family, group, and couples therapy sessions, as well as in my work with diverse inmate populations throughout our state. It’s through these connections that I’ve learned how to support others in their journeys toward healing and growth, no matter where they start.
More about me
In 2015, life threw me a curveball during a trip to the Philippines with my dad and three brothers. A cliff-jumping adventure led to an injury that resulted in daily symptoms associated with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). My neurologist, respecting my preference for holistic treatment, recommended neurofeedback—a discovery that not only changed my life but also revolutionized the way I approach therapy.
Nothing brings me more joy than witnessing people transform their lives for the better. My experience has taught me that any circumstance, no matter how daunting, can be overcome with the right mindset. It starts with acknowledging and accepting reality as it is, then approaching it with the tenderness we've often withheld from ourselves (we can be our own harshest critics), and finally, identifying a set of values worth fighting for, no matter the challenges ahead. I am honored to be where I am, doing what I do. For me, this isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. Mind Reneural exists for one purpose: to transform the lives of those in Colorado Springs and our surrounding communities, one person at a time—the way the late Mother Teresa so wisely advised
